dec 1

Or suppose a king is about to go to war against another king. Will he not first sit down and consider whether he is able with ten thousand men to oppose the one coming against him with twenty thousand? If he is not able, he will send a delegation while the other is still a long way off and will ask for terms of peace.

luke 14:31-32

the next verse is the critical one. it pulls verses 28-32 together, but we will leave them for tomorrow. today let's think about how practical Jesus is in both these passages.

In verses 28 to 30 he basically says, hey, don't look like a fool, make sure you know what you're getting into before you get into it.

In verses 31-32 he basically says, find out whether you got enough ammo before you start shooting at people. if not, find a way to save your butt.

Not the kind of stuff you would expect to come from Jesus' mouth. But that's Jesus. He doesn't do what you expect...

more tomorrow.
